Appendectomy by Dr. Iraniha
Appendectomy is a surgical operation to remove the appendix. Once a diagnosis of appendicitis is made, an appendectomy usually is performed. Antibiotics almost always are begun prior to surgery and as soon as appendicitis is suspected. Minimally invasive surgical approach is the gold standard for removal of the appendix and can be done via laparoscopic surgery or robotic surgery. Laparoscopic appendectomy is performed by making three small incisions in the abdominal wall. Using the laparoscope and other special instruments, the gallbladder is removed through one of the small incisions. The operation requires general anesthesia but in most cases it is done as an outpatient basis. Most people can return to their normal activities, regular work and exercise within two weeks. No special diets or other precautions are needed after surgery.
Appendectomy surgical procedure performed with robotic technology.
More recently, removal of appendix can be performed with robotic system. The da Vinci System is a robotic surgical platform designed to enable complex procedures of all types to be performed. The da Vinci robotic system offers wristed instrumentation and enhanced visualization and allows the surgeon to perform the operation with more precision and even less trauma compare to laparoscopic surgery. There have been some potential benefits experienced by surgeons using the da Vinci Surgical System over traditional laparoscopic approaches.
